Gatherings this season

Coming soon: The 2024-25 programming season. Make plans to join us!

Current Season

Most separate. We are determined to gather.

We hope you’ll be part of our 18th year, as we celebrate what unites us in a world determined to see us divided.
“To the Village Square we must carry the facts. From there must come America’s voice.” — Albert Einstein

While you stay tuned for more info about this year’s season, check out the programs we have scheduled now, beginning with our season launch film “Undivide Us” on Friday, September 6.

The Village Square is legal this year. We have officially been at our mission to build civic trust between people who don’t look or think alike for as long as it takes for your first born to go off to college. Crazy, right?

Now that we’re legal — and given the current state of politics — it’s likely we’ll need to drink (and possibly heavily). If you cast your vision towards Washington, it’s not really going so well.

But if you look at Tallahassee — where we know each other across differences of color, creed and ideology — we see how our relationship with each other changes everything. We’re increasingly sure that living our lives in the communities where we’re planted (rather than on a poisonous ideological chat thread) changes everything.

People are hard to hate close up.

“Adulthood” doesn’t just come with exciting freedoms, it brings serious responsibilities too, and — as citizens — this is a year we’ll have to rise into them.

In Judaism, the number 18 represents “chai” or life. In the Jewish tradition, gifts in multiples of 18 signifying a gift of life and luck. We’re going to need some luck this year too. If we’re lucky, Americans will have had enough of the isolation, the IV drip of anger, the pitched battles we’re waging against each other.

We’re officially celebrating our 18th birthday this year, and we can’t wait to do it with you.

Stay tuned.

Join or Die: Why You Should Join a Club

It will be in hometowns like this one, between people like us, where a new spirit will take hold — then spread sideways. That means we’d better stop waiting around for someone else to save us.

It will be in hometowns like this one, between people like us, where a new spirit will take hold — then spread sideways. That means we’d better stop waiting around for someone else to save us.

Let Friendship Redeem the Republic

“You and I ought not to die, before we have explained ourselves to each other.” So began the late-life correspondence between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. Once friends, differences in opinion and political competition had taken a toll.

A Citizen’s Guide to Saving America

“The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise — with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.” — Abraham Lincoln

The Year of Living Locally

At a time when partisans can agree on almost nothing, it’s possible that one solution might be right under our feet

Respect + Rebellion

You can feel the roiling forces of rebellion popping up from sea to shining sea, but what if in America the greatest act of rebellion might be to show each other a little respect? What if being neighbors with each other at a time like this is the most powerful form of rebellion?

Order + Chaos

“I have a great belief in the fact that whenever there is chaos, it creates wonderful thinking. I consider chaos a gift.” — Septima Clark

Through the Looking Glass

Our Journey Through the Looking Glass of Modern Politics (in a year when dystopian fiction had nothing on reality)

Founding Ideals

The story of America is the biggest, boldest idea in human history writ large and offered for almost 250 years to its citizens, and as a beacon to the world. We’re going to talking about living into it.

Us v. Them?

Rich v. Poor, Left v. Right, Faith v. Science. Oy.

The Asteroids Club

Join “The Asteroids Club,” a state of mind that values long-term thinking, listening and an ounce of prevention. We’ve even got a club motto: “I’ll help you deflect your asteroid if you help me deflect mine.”

Unity & Diversity in America

The ties that bind us together across our differences seem to be fraying. And the conversation of our democracy is increasingly absent. We’re going to have them.

The Divided States of America

We’ll start with a friendly conversation about the Florida Recount, consider “The Big Sort,” the psychology of polarization — and we’ll finish out embracing “Authentic Patriotism.”

The Year of Living Dangerously

Tackling America’s Big Ugly Partisan Controversies. Over Dinner.

Faith, Politics & Neighbors

We’re going to talk about the things your mom told you not to talk about in polite company — faith and politics.

America’s Energy Future

When the future of the planet rests on your decision, you might want to nail it. We think diversity of opinion will help us get that done.
