“Healing Starts Here: Ending the Cycle of Mean” Event Aims to Build a Community Where Everyone Belongs

Tallahassee, FL – November 21, 2023 – The Village Square, known for its commitment to fostering dialogue and understanding in our community, is proud to present its second God Squad event of the 2023-24 season, “Healing Starts Here: Ending the Cycle of Mean.” This event is set to take place on November 30, 2023 at WFSU Studios, and aims to be an inspiring and impactful experience for all who attend.

In a world where divisiveness often overshadows unity, “Healing Starts Here” seeks to initiate a powerful conversation about ending the cycle of mean-spiritedness. The event will feature thought-provoking discussions and inspiring speakers who will share their insights on building a community rooted in empathy, understanding and moral teachings.

The Village Square has always been at the forefront of creating spaces for dialogue and connection, and “Healing Starts Here” is no exception. By addressing the pervasive issue of unkindness, the event aims to provide attendees with the inspiration needed to foster positive change within themselves and their community.

“We believe that true healing in the spaces we share begins when we confront the cycle of mean-spiritedness and replace it with empathy, kindness, and understanding,” said Liz Joyner, The Village Square’s Founder and President. “This event is an opportunity for our community to come together, engage in meaningful conversations, and take the first steps toward building a more compassionate hometown — one where we show up for each other.”

The event will be facilitated by Reverend Latricia Scriven of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and will feature the diverse lineup of God Squad regulars, including Father Tim Holeda of the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More, Pastor Joseph Davis, Jr. of Truth Gatherers Community Church, Reverend Betsy Ouellette Zierden formerly of Good Samaritan United Methodist Church, Rabbi Paul Sidlofsky of Temple Israel, and Dr. Gary Shultz of First Baptist Church, each bringing a unique perspective and valuable insights on the importance of ending the cycle of mean-spiritedness.

Early registration is recommended, as seating is limited. God Squad programs are $10 (free registration option available) and a reservation is required. For those not able to attend at WFSU Studio, the program will stream live on WFSU and The Village Square’s Facebook pages.
